March 14, Ivan Moscalenko celebrated his 14th birthday. In spite of being in the hospital, Ivan was in good mood. Right in the morning, volunteers from the charitable foundation “Ty Anhel” came to wish him happy birthday. Ivan was happy with his gift. We all unpacked it together, and we even played one game of table soccer with the score 6:2 in Ivan’s favor. Michael Klapchiuk, the other boy in the ward actively participated in the game. Medical personnel joined us in wishing Ivan happy birthday, and they brought Ivan a delicious cake.

Charitable Foundation “Ty Anhel”, National Union of Photographers of Ukraine, and photography club “Columb” invites you to participate in a charitable exhibition with auction. All the money raised from the sale of the works of the famous photographer of our region Olexand Torbiak will be donated to support the children that are undergoing treatment in Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Children’s Hospital. In 2009, our Foundation received 32,591UAH ($4,074) of charitable contributions. This money was used for charitable purposes that are in line with the objectives of the Foundation outlined in its bylaws.
Preparing For the Spring

Finally, the spring that all the children were waiting for is here. Unfortunately, not everybody can go outside and breeze in the fresh air. Some children are not allowed to go outside, but nonetheless they are happy because of every day they live. Five children came to our last art-therapy class, and all of them were glad to work on our project. We were working on the cards for mothers’ day, March 8. Some children were preparing gifts for their moms, and some – for the doctors and nurses. Some children who were in serious condition were not able to attend the class. Michael Klapchiuk was one of them.
13 000 Grivnas is the Price of Michael’s Life

Amoung all the patients in our department, Michael Klapchiuk is in the most difficult condition. For six days in a row, they boy is undergoing chemotherapy. Five more chemos are still ahead. Because of the nature of Michael’s disease, he is undergoing chemo almost without any breaks. For a month, Michael does not leave the hospital bed, and his body is very weak. All the time his mom and grandma take turns to be next to him. Before the next chemotherapy begins, the boy will need the expensive drug Rituximab that costs 13 000 grivnas ($1625). This product facilitates the chemo, that is extremely hard on the boy.

Ivan began his treatment at the department of hematology two months ago, and he was in serious condition at that time. The professionalism of the doctors and the diligence of the father gave good results. Now Ivan is undergoing the radiation therapy, and in the next three weeks, there will be a small break, after which the boy will have chemotherapy. Ivan refuses to eat, but in spite of it he is in good mood. Ivan is a wonderful person, and we can learn a lot from him. He makes you think about your life about adjustments that can be made to it. Two weeks ago we wrote about a problem in the department of hematology. Unfortunately, as of today we were able to raise only 2 900 grivnas, that is only 20% of the amount we need. We would like to write again about the problem and to ask you to help us raise the money to return the debt. One of the patients in the hospital has been diagnosed with measles. This infection is extremely dangerous to the children with leukemia. The disease can be fatal for a child whose body is weaken by the chemotherapy.

Dear friends, Today I visited Ivan. When I entered his ward, he was building a toy car, and it was turning out great! He is a very artistic child, and he likes to create something with his own hands. When I asked Ivan whom he wants to be when he grows up, he said that he wants to be a nurse. As for the treatment, in the next three weeks, Ivan will be undergoing chemotherapy. Then for two weeks, he will have a break, and he will be able to go home. Ivan’s greatest desire is to go outside and to breeze in fresh air. A Common Prayer for Healing Cancer Took Place in Ivano-Frankivsk

On the eve of Candlemas and International Childhood Cancer Day, a prayer to the Holy Virgin took place. Father Capelani, Father Ruslan, and Father Jury prayed for the healing of the children with cancer. Priests, healthcare workers, parents, and children in one prayer asked the Holy Virgin to heal the children. A child with cancer is a hard trial for the whole family. Often parents ask why all this happened to my child. Father Ruslan said: “Do not look for a reason, because you will never be able to find it."

Evelina has almost turned her five yet. The life story of this cute girl started in April 2016. Evelina is an early bird who came in life too early from her mother's tummy. The six-month-old baby of 870 mm weight and 35 cm height frightened the doctors of the maternity hospital. No one knew what would happen to the baby; whether would she cope with this and whether would she be able to live a full life in the future.
