At the end of February 2013, bad times came to Kunichak family. They noticed that their 15-year old daughter Maria’s lymph nodes got bigger. At first everybody thought that it was a common cold, but unfortunately it was not the case, and the girl was diagnosed with fourth degree Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Maria was never sick before. At summer she helped a lot with chores around the house and in the yard.

When Vitaly was 14 months, he had pneumonia and he was hospitalized because he could not breeze. At that time his mom suspected that he has a big tumor that makes it difficult for him to breeze. After two weeks of consultations and tests both in Inano-Frankivsk Children’s Hospital and in Kiev, the diagnosis was final: stage III lymphoma, and now Vitaly needs chemotherapy. Vitaly’s condition was serious. Because of the disease, he could not walk, eat, and became nervous. The big size of the tumor made it difficult to treat it, but the doctors in Kiev Ohmadyt were trying to do all they could.

Nazar did well at school: he is a winner of School Olympiads in Language Arts, Math, and Science. He also participated in City Olympiads and won prizes. Nazar loves sports, chess, hiking in woods and mountains. Nazar’s friends and classmates love him, teachers consider him to be a good role model for others. In January 2013, the misfortune happened. Volodimir is four years old. On September 10, 2012 the boy had a complex surgery. A huge 3kg tumor was removed and after that the boy was diagnosed with rabdomiosarkoma. Up to this time, Volodimir was extremely active and optimistic child. Because of Volodimir’s manners and maturity, everybody called him “our professor” in the daycare.

Maria is only two years old and she has been diagnosed with cancer. In July, her parents noticed that her eye became red and they took Maria to an ophthalmologist. After some testing, the parents learned that Maria has retinoblastoma of both eyes. In Odessa Filatov institute the diagnosis was confirmed, Maria had surgery and her first chemotherapy. The right eye eventually was removed because the tumor was quite large on it, and the eye lost its functionality.

Until recently, Mykola, a thirteen year old boy, lived a carefree life. Earlier this year, Mykola was diagnosed with a tumor in his head and had a surgery in the Hospital of Ivano-Frankivsk. The rehabilitation period was hard. Mykola complained about pain in his legs and his back, and he could not sleep. The doctor referred Mykola to a specialized hospital for MRI, and as a result three malignant tumors were found on Mykola’s spine. Olia was admitted to the children’s regional hospital with a severe diagnosis – acute leukemia, and she is in the middle of the first protocol now. The treatment is very hard on Olia. In our family only father is working. Olia has two brothers and a sister. Soon, Olia will be transferred to Kiev or Lviv for further treatment. The money that we had for the treatment is running out. The doctors diagnosed him with rheumatoid arthritis and for a long time Taras was treated for that in Ivano-Frankivsk, in Kiev, and then again in Ivano-Frankivsk. In spite of treatment, Taras was not getting better. Then his lymph nodes became enlarged, and the biopsy revealed cancer cells.
