A year has gone since the time when Maria Maziuk asked everybody to help her 12-year old daughter.  At that time, she was desperate because she had a very ill child who was getting worse and worse every day.

Today Tatiana is one year older. The girl is happy. She understands that it is still a long way to recovery, but her desire to live will help her to go through all the hardships.
And her mother Maria… I have never seen such a strong person in my life. From the moment Tatiana was diagnosed, from early morning till late at night she was looking for a hospital that would admit Tatiana and looking for ways to raise money to pay for the treatment. And she never lost her faith that everything will be all right. With the help of thousands of people, she managed to take Tatiana to Germany for the treatment. Only at the airport she confessed that she was scared to death to go alone with her ill daughter and leave here in Ukraine her son…

Maria had to go though many painful moments, but she has never lost her optimism. She is indefinitely grateful to everyone for help, prayers, and kind words.

When Tatiana and Maria came to Hamburg, they had little bit more than half of the amount indicated on the preliminary invoice.  They did not know that they would have to stay in Germany more than 6 months. Now it is their ninth month over there. Maria has never stopped to raise money. After the bone marrow transplant that was done in May, for several times Tatiana ended up in hospital in critical condition. At times, her life was in danger. In October, Maria turned to the International Office that is responsible for the international patients at the hospital where Tatiana is staying to find out what was the invoice for the treatment. She learned that she does not have enough to cover the costs and she had to borrow the money. Now our only hope is that charitable foundations and Ukrainian public  health organization will help.

Maria is grateful to everybody, because so many people contributed to Tatiana’s treatment. Now, Tatiana is dreaming about her future and she is so happy that many people reached out to her. I cannot tell you with words how happy I am for this wonderful girl and her mom. I am sure that they gave a great example to many parents with cancer kids in their home town and in the whole country.

We will always remember everything that you did for Tatiana !!!

Sincerely
Galyna Gatiuk
