You enter the room and see multicolor circles of light moving as the music is playing, stars on the ceiling, various shapes of light on the walls, colorful balls, lamps, and fountains. Light and sound are pouring out of everywhere. That is how we can describe the new sensory room that the children consider to be magic.

Vygoda rehabilitation center celebrated more than just the beginning of school year on September 1. The school is 50 years old, and Oksana Yakimov and her Center organized  a grand concert to celebrate this milestone. School staff, children from Vygoda preschool, the participant of the show “X-Factor” Halina Skrinkovych, and many others took part in the concert. Teachers made presentations about working with children who have vision disabilities, showed the guests how to spell words using Braille, and taught a lesson about how blind people find their way in new places. In addition, guests could participate in exciting contests.

Of course, we could not attend such celebration without a gift. Knowing the needs of the children, the charitable foundation “Ty Anhel” decided to create a sensory room for kids. Our goal was to create a room where children can relax and learn something new about the world using their senses.

The cost of the room is 25,710UAH ($3,214). That is a lot of money, but we are happy we could do it for children’s health and comfort. We are grateful to everybody who helped us to purchase all the equipment for the room; especially many thanks to our permanent partner, Ukrainian Philanthropic Marketplace.

After we cut the ribbon and opened the door, our guests had an opportunity to feel how students are going to relax in the room after studying. Everybody was impressed with the room, and nobody wanted to leave.

We also thank Maria Yusip and Olga Voyzeshko from photo studio “Promin” for making beautiful pictures for us.
