We would like to share news about the health and the course  of treatment of Volodymir Oliykik. The battle with a scary diagnosis -  rabdomiosarkoma continues. Five months of the treatment in hospital, chemotherapy and rehabilitation are already behind, and now we can see the constant positive trend. Volodymir’s mother is happy, and the boy himself wants to return home and never be sick again.

Of course, Volodymir had hard times: after chemo the blood tests were poor, the boy had no appetite, and he did not have enough  energy to move and get up from bed. Volodymir had stomatitis and because of that he had high fever and many unpleasant procedures. And on top of that recently, Volodymir contracted chicken pox. Yet, in spite of all these ailments, the boy kept repeating with courage: “I am healthy and I should stop taking my medications.”

At present, Volodimir’s health is satisfactory. Recently he went to Kiev for a consultation. The doctors confirmed the positive trend of the treatment and even cancelled the radiotherapy because, as they say, Volodimir’s body responded well to the chemo. This is the decision for now; the doctors will be watching Volodimir’s condition closely and if needed will correct the treatment.

To distract the boy from the reality, Volodymir’s parents took him to the aquarium, where he had a chance to see sharks and some other big fish. Volodymir also saw the main Christmas tree of Ukraine. The boy was so happy and overwhelmed with new experiences that he forgot for a while about his disease.

In Kiev Volodymir had several wonderful days, but back at home he got bad news. Volodymir contracted Hepatisis C. After the cancer treatment is over, Volodymir will have to undergo another lengthy treatment of Hepatitis C. It is good to know, though, that it is

possible to live with this disease and it is possible to recover from it.

After the next chemo, Volodymir will be able to go home. Keeping that in mind, Volodimir agreed to eat well so that his blood tests are good and do all that he can to bring the day when he goes home closer.

At home Volodymir behaves like a completely healthy child: he is running, playing, helping with chores, trying to learn something new, doing sports and is eating well. It is hard to believe that the boy has cancer. He is fighting the disease and he has a great desire to recover.

When we look into Volodymir’s eyes full of optimism, we believe that he will be able win that his life will change for better. We ask God to take away the disease and  let Volodymir stay at home as much as possible.

The charitable foundation “Ty Anhel” thanks everybody who helps the boy and we hope for your support in the future. We are sure that together we can help Volodymir to win the battle with the disease.
