Orphan mentoring in Ukraine

Today`s day will go down in history of Ukrainian legislation as the start of mentoring of children-orphans! Ukraine has made a big step toward socialization of children from boarding schools. Verkhovna Rada passed a bill amending the Laws of Ukraine about providing of organizational and legal conditions of social protection of orphans and children without parental care. From now on, all people, who have strength, possibility and wish, can become real friends to children from institutional establishment and help them to prepare for adulthood.

Approximately 104 000 children live in Ukrainian institutional establishments now. Only 10% from them – orphans and children without parental care. 90% - children, who have parents, but live in such establishments for various reasons and don`t have enough support, as well as care.  

Mentoring is one of the modern methods to prepare children from boarding schools to independent life. Such method is practised in many countries around the world.
