Charitable foundation “Ty Anhel” together with Ivano-Frankivsk city  organization "Ukrainian Youth Association"   and Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Philharmonic announce a new charitable campaign to collect toys for the children with cancer called “Basket of Courage”.

The event will take place in the building of and Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Philharmonic.

In addition to the toy collection for the little patients of Ivano-Frankivsk Children’s Hospital, the goal of our campaign is to draw public attention to protection of the children with cancer. Because of the insufficient funding and outdated diagnostic  technologies, almost half of the children with cancer in Ukraine die. At the same time, in Europe and North America the survival rate for such children is 75%.

Every year many children from Ivano-Fankivsk are diagnosed with cancer. Once they get to the Department of Hematology, they will have a long and painful treatment with the unknown outcome. During this time positive and negative emotions may influence their lives in either good or bad way.

One of the ways to give the children the positive emotions is so called the “basket of courage” – a huge transparent bags filled with little toys. The purpose of such bag is to help the children  with cancer to overcome the fear of the painful medical procedures after which they will be allowed to pick a toy as a reward for courage and good behavior.

Such “baskets of courage” are popular in many European hospitals and beginning 2012 in Kiev. Ukrainian doctors confirmed that the promise to get a toy helps the child to overcome the fear of needles. Kids know that after the procedure, they will pick a gift and it gives them courage and helps their parents and doctors to talk the kids into getting one more shot.

We invite everybody in Ivano-Frankivsk to join our campaign and to fill the “basket of courage”. You can bring the toys to and Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Philharmonic on March 30 and 31.

We kindly ask you to bring toys that are new,  good quality (the child may put them in mouth), and small size (so that we fit as many toys as possible in one bag).
